So I was working on the site design for Elmo’s Diner for a while. To get the correct feel I had to incorrperate the corroprate identliy of the restaurant, which is very bold yet very subdued as well. Bold color, bold lines, and yet not make it flashy. And I have to say it turned out very nicely.

I wish they didn’t kill the NSX Replacement

I always loved the NSX. A nice mid engine light weight sports car. When Honda started work on a replacement I was excited, as honda was putting to bed there only other sports car, the S2000.
(Anyone who knows me know that I like Honda cars. They are cool, fun, reliable, and efficient. Which is why I have the last generation Civic Si.)

With the economic downturn Honda decided that it couldn’t justify the need to spend millions on a niche super car, frankly I don’t blame them, but I could just imagine what that car could be like. I don’t think I ever saw a non masked prototype, but recently they released the Honda HSV-010, so I decided to do a quick sketch of what I’d imagine a production car would look like.

obviously this is just a sketch in illustrator, but it turned out pretty nicely.

I was contacted a few months ago about developing a website for Partners Against Crime district 2, a local community group. The site went live last month, and I was able to present it tonight at the meeting. I am very proud of the site, not only does it look good, it has a great CMS behind it. The CMS works so well I was able to update the site during the meeting. SO CHECK IT OUT!!! http://pac2durham.org. and let me know what you think.

I’ve haven’t posted anything in a while, not that I haven’t been busy. Over the last several months I’ve been working on all sorts of projects. Several logo designs, websites, and most recently a poster for a local university’s women’s basketball team.

Design and history

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the roll design has played in history. I think about this subject fairly often. But this time I started thinking about it because WW1 occured a century ago. Why does that have to do with design? I’m not sure, but design is all around us in many obvious ways by also in many subtle ways we hardly ever think about.

Look at tanks, steam engines, posters, propaganda and numerous other objects. These things have surounded us for centuries, and we seldom think about them, they flow into our lives with out us even knowing, yet they are able to infulence us.

There a documentary coming out in a few week called objecified center around industrial design. I looking forward to seeing it and find out how it treats the subject. Where might it start, the coopers, the cobblers, maybe with A jewler?

Letter Head

It was time… time to create a letter head for my free lance work. Well it’s done and I like it. There really isn’t much to say about it. It’s only a letter head, but it’s nice, simple and fits with the identity of the rest of my work. I had to alter it some from the web site, as I needed to add the word design to it, while keeping the same icons.

Intelligent Graphic Design

I recently finished the web site for Hopkins Design Group, a Durham based graphic design company. They tend to only do print design, and hence their site is very simple yet easy to navigate, and very clean. One of the things I like about the site, is the navigation. There are several ways to make your way through the site. We built a tour function, that allows straight forward movement, or clickable blocks for a freeform perusal.

Craft Work

For Mothers day I decided to give Trish a photo pendant of Lila. Rather then try to find a store or online photo site to buy one, I dusted off my old glass equipment. I haven’t used it for probably 5 or 6 years, and it was scattered throughout the house. I have tons of old glass, and all the supplies that I needed so it was perfect.

Ok, so I know it’s not yet mothers day and I’m talking about this. Trish knows about it and is already wearing it. There was no way for me to make it without her knowing, plus she hates surprises.

I made two pendants. The first was the bigger of the two. It’s made of two pieces of glass that sandwich a photo, soldered together, with a silver band wrapped around it. It was rather pretty, but way too big.

The second pendant is much smaller. Made the same way minus the silver band. This one is much lighter, and easier to wear.

Mothers day present

I plan on putting a few higher quality images up next week.
